The brain stores memories only useful during sleep

The prefrontal cortex and hippocampus "decide" what information to retain and remember what

After a restful night, people remember best the information obtained during the day, but only if you know beforehand that such information is useful in the future, reveals a study by neuroscientists at the University of Lübeck, Germany. According to the researchers during the waking the prefrontal cortex "label it" potentially relevant memories during the night, these memories would be the only strengthen the hippocampus in memory.

This is what he has revealed a study by scientists at the University of Lübeck, Germany, and the results have been published in The Journal of Neuroscience.

The discovery suggests that the brain evaluates and holds our memories while we sleep preferably those that we will be more relevant.

Give importance to the memories

Throughout the day people receive large amounts of information. Much of this information is encoded into memory in the brain and initially stored, but most of it is quickly forgotten.

In this study, neuroscientist at the University of Lübeck, Jan Born and colleagues set out to determine how this process occurs, ie how the brain decides what information retener y cuál olvidar.

En The Journal of Neuroscience, los autores written research, therefore, the importance we place on information that will determine whether the dream will significantly benefit it in its consolidation into memory.

Two experiments

Born and colleagues conducted two experiments to test the memory retention of a total of 191 volunteers.
